Rambutans

I’m a pretty adventurous eater. I’ll try everything at least once, I think. No one has ever offered me a meal worm cookie or a platter of stir-fried crickets, so I’m not sure how I would react to eating bugs. This sense of culinary adventure is something that I also hope to nurture in my daughter. To facilitate it, we go to the supermarket to pick out one new food each week. This week’s choice was rambutan. It looks like an alien egg, but it’s a fruit. Once you peel off the shell-like skin, the fleshy meat tastes like a cross between a grape and a peach. They are similar to lychees. Because of the pit in the middle, you have to take your time eating them.
After eating 6-7 of them, my 7 year-old daughter had this to say:
|
Name of food |
Ram-bu-something? |
|
Looks: |
It looks scary and furry! |
|
Tastes: |
Kind of sour and sweet |
|
Would you eat this again? |
No, because it didn’t taste very good. |

Comments: |
Augh! I don’t want one to touch me!! |
