November - A Time To Give Thanks

Let’s face it. As moms we get overwhelmed with all that needs to be done, day in and day out. Consequently, we often feel like we’re drowning in the needs of others without a minute to ourselves, never mind finding time to be reflective on what we are thankful for. But having an “Attitude of Gratitude” is not only good for our mental and physical health --- it can also benefit our time with our family.

I recently read, “It is not happy people who are grateful; It’s grateful people that are happy.” Nothing could be farther from the truth! Demonstrating gratitude helps put things in perspective. It allows us to appreciate the little things that we often take for granted. It provides opportunity for us to treasure moments with our kids, no matter how big or small. Best of all, it doesn’t cost a penny!

In saying this, I challenge each of you this month to focus on the power of gratitude.

It’s simple:

  • Be aware of and appreciate what you have now. Stop comparing yourself to others and consider the things that we often take for granted. Just pause and look around. You’ll be amazed at what you do have! Yes, it’s great to strive for more, but being thankful for what you currently have is equally important.
  • Keep a Gratitude Journal. Just note a few things each day that make you smile. If at first, nothing comes to mind, look within. Or just look at life through the eyes of your child. You’ll find plenty of things to be thankful for this way! There are even apps you can download to track this on your phone! (Gotta love technology!)
  • Reframe challenging or uncomfortable situations as positive. It’s all just a matter of perspective.

Remember, November is the harvest season --and gratitude is the open door to abundance. So, stop wondering where you will find the time to be thankful! Just make a vow and do it!

Happy Harvest!
